This is who we are as humans. We have tremendous ability to care about the world around us, the creatures and beings sharing the earth with us, large and small, human and non-human. Sometimes it is easy to forget that, especially when we hear so much about our capacity to do harm and to be heartless.
I Am a "Deplorable": We All Are
We are human here, just like other humans everywhere else on the globe. There is no difference in our brains, hearts, and bodies. We operate on the same circuitry. As such we have thoughts, feelings, and energy within us that contains both light and dark energy.

Connecting to the Earth
Two of the things that help me come back into myself and calm down are meditation and imagery. I often use these tools when I feel stuck and do not know what to do with myself. In this blog, I will walk you through one of the guided meditations that I find helpful. It is a combination of various teachings I have experienced in mindfulness meditation, qigong and somatic therapy.
Darkness and Light
I have a place inside me where I want everyone to be perfect. This part of me desires a world full of people who are all light with no darkness, like perfect little angels walking around on earth. In this world, everyone would be nice to each other and no one would ever get hurt. We would all be safe, always.
Pausing
One of my recent practices has been to pause in between things. Rather than go right from one activity to the next, I stop and pause. I notice the pull to be full speed ahead and I notice what it feels like to simply be and breathe for a few moments. Sometimes it only takes a few breaths for me to begin to slow down.
